Josh Bates

Josh is an Associate in the Technology, Media and Telecommunications practice. Josh previously worked at a political monitoring agency where he led the Tech and Telecoms portfolio, delivering Parliamentary insight to clients with a particular focus on online safety and digital competition policy.

Before this, he worked at a public affairs consultancy in Brussels where he provided clients in the financial services industry policy analysis and advocacy recommendations. He has also accumulated experience working at a FinTech trade body and within a Minister’s constituency office. 

He graduated from the University of Sheffield with a BA in History and Politics. At Global Counsel, Josh works with tech clients across a range of issues in the UK and EU, including online safety, data efficiency, video games, and telecoms. 

Recent examples of his work include:

  • Preparing clients for appearances in front of select committees and supporting their wider engagement with Parliament. 
  • Generating detailed briefings on issues such as online safety, digital advertising, and the Metaverse.
  • Creating an engagement strategy for a major AI company to help them connect with regulators, parliament, and government.
