A KPI methodology for measuring the EU’s industrial competitiveness

Overview

The European Round Table for Industry (ERT) is the EU’s leading association of large industrial firms. It wanted to ensure that member’s perspectives on the EU’s industrial competitiveness were taken into consideration by the European Commission as it developed a new set of key performance indicators (KPIs) for the EU economy.

Work

Working closely with the association and its members, we developed a methodological framework for developing KPIs. We then drafted a co-branded policy paper which proposed a set of key performance indicators for EU industrial competitiveness. It was later presented to the European Commission and EU Council.

Impact

The report helped to refine and amplify the ERT’s thought leadership on key performance indicators, including coverage in key media outlets, such as the Financial Times and Handelsblatt and an invitation to discuss the paper with policymakers in the EU Council and European Commission. The European Commission’s own KPIs released in May 2021 reflected the ERT’s proposal and the association is now leading the work of the Industrial Forum on KPIs, in collaboration with the European Commission, member states and other trade associations.

A strategy for engaging UK and EU health policy

Overview

Our client wanted to identify areas of alignment between its commercial strategy and the health policy priorities of EU member states and the UK.  It aimed to use these to develop a programme of mutually beneficial outreach and to engage with the policy process.

Work

We delivered a comprehensive report covering the areas of policy focus over the year ahead for each EU member state and the UK. For the former, we considered their approach to accessing the EU recovery fund, and for the latter we looked at the pipeline of policy initiatives relevant to the company.

Impact

It was important for our client to understand individual government priorities to then create linkages to their own commercial activities. As a result of work, the client was able to deploy the findings of the report with individual country teams to assist and guide their engagement with the policy process in each market.

A multi-channel public policy campaign using SME research

Overview

As one of the UK’s leading fintech firms, the client wanted to ensure that the benefits of its emerging technology and services were understood by UK authorities as the regulatory landscape for payments entered a period of serious change.

Work

We delivered a multi-channel campaign built on research we undertook with the client’s SME customers. We also provided strategic counsel to the client as it built and developed relationships with new regulatory bodies and key policymakers using the SME research as a key part of their engagement.

Impact

The client secured national media coverage for its Small Business campaign alongside recognition and positive engagement from key regulatory and government stakeholders. The business established strong relationships to enable future engagement on key emerging issues.
