Dr. Ong's areas of policy interest includes trade and investment flows, the convergence of technology & industrial development and the intersection between public policy and politics.

Dr. Ong Kian-Ming is the Pro Vice-Chancellor of Taylor’s University and the former Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia. He was also a Special Officer to the Minister of Finance. He currently sits on the board of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority, the government’s principal agency overseeing inbound investment.

Prior to his political life, he was the General Manager of the Penang Institute office in Kuala Lumpur, a lecturer at UCSI University, a researcher at the Socio-Economic Development and Research Institute and the Institute of Strategic Analysis and Policy Studies and a consultant with the Boston Consulting Group in the Kuala Lumpur office.

He was a former Fulbright Scholar and holds a PhD in Political Science from Duke University, an MPhil in Economics from the University of Cambridge, and a BSc in Economics from the London School of Economics. He was an ASEAN Scholar in Singapore where he studied at Raffles Institution and Raffles Junior College.
