Global Counsel expands its senior team to support international growth

Global Counsel has completed its latest round of hirings and promotions to strengthen our ability to deliver for clients. 

  • Global Counsel now operates across five offices globally, in London, Brussels, Singapore, Washington DC and Doha.
  • Global Counsel has grown to over 100 full-time colleagues, reflecting our ability to attract talent from the highest levels of policymaking and industry.
  • Global Counsel continues to boost its capabilities to address client needs, with advice informed by opinion research and rigorous economic analysis, alongside industry expertise, policy literacy and extensive experience in government and business.

Through the first six months of this year, Global Counsel has continued to sustain our recent growth. This reflects the trust that our clients place in us, some of who have been with us for over a decade. Our recent progress has been built on a consistent approach established over many years of first-class strategic advice, high-quality research output, and insights drawn from an unsurpassed global network.


Over the coming months, Global Counsel will continue to develop its products to provide clients with end-to-end expertise, from strategy and risk-mapping all the way through to tactical insights and delivery. These team members take up new positions alongside colleagues who have recently assumed new roles following a set of internal promotions.

Expanding our global coverage  

 

Tiffany McDonald joins GC as a Senior Adviser, and has twenty years experience as a diplomat, serving in Indonesia, South Korea, the UK and most recently as Australia's High Commissioner to Brunei. At Global Counsel, she primarily provides advice to the trade practice on geopolitical and strategic risk across Asia-Pacific. She advises clients on multilateral negotiations, on the risks and opportunities in ASEAN and provides training on diplomatic tradecraft. 


Robert Etter joins as a Director after spending 13 years in senior roles in the White House, U.S Senate and U.S House of Representatives. He has served as a political appointee of the Biden administration and now advises US corporates and investors on developing their government affairs presence and strategy in the United States, regulatory developments and providing detailed policy and political analysis.  


Lorna Ritchie, GC’s new Climate and Sustainability Practice Director, has spent the last ten years working as a policy advisor on Climate Change for the UK Government. She led the UK Presidency's Adaptation Negotiations at COP26 and prior to that, led the UK's carbon markets negotiations. Lorna now leads on providing policy and regulatory advice and assisting clients to understand both the risks and opportunities. 


Raphael Malek joins GC from strategic consultancy BritainThinks as Head of Research and Insight. He has a decade of experience providing advice to clients rooted in qualitative, quantitative, deliberative and ethnographic audience insight. At GC he works across policy practices, using bespoke audience research and data analysis to complement GC’s policy expertise and strengthen the advice provided to clients.   


We have also expanded our sectoral and market expertise at the senior associate level covering trade, tech, political due diligence, energy and financial services in the US, UK, EU, Qatar and Singapore:

  • Jasbir Basi joins in London after leading the UK’s strategic communication efforts as part of its hosting of COP 26;
  • Chris Dale joins in London from HM Treasury where he was a senior policy advisor covering international insurance;
  • Yasemin Kavlak joins in Brussels after nearly a decade in the Turkish Ministry of Trade;
  • Nicholas Lee joins in Singapore after covering investor relations and market analysis for a leading consumer internet company;
  • Max Mandich joins in Washington, DC after serving as policy advisor to Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) covering financial services policy;
  • Ugonma Nwankwo joins in Washington, DC after covering tech policy for the Center for Global Development;
  • Sewar Quran joins in Doha to support our international trade and investment work after working in the legal industry;
  • Michelle Ryang joins in New York City after working with private equity investors and other large alternative asset managers at a regulatory due diligence and policy analysis firm, and
  • Kelly Satchell joins in London from HM Treasury where she was a policy advisor covering tax subsidies. 

 

Strengthening our leadership structure  

 

Global Counsel is also proud to announce a series of promotions in line with the outstanding performance the team has helped achieve and to reflect the company’s long-term strategy:

  • Alex Dawson is taking on a new role as UK Country Director;
  • Lilah Howson-Smith will be moving into the role of Director in the UK team to strengthen our position as an industry leader in the UK public policy advice space;
  • Tom King will be transitioning to Global Counsel's US team based in New York to grow our work with investors and becoming Principal based in New York City, and
  • Rebecca Park will join our senior leadership team, taking a key role in shaping GC’s future direction.
