How the Fit for 55 package will impact the energy sector

Energy & Commodities

Two weeks after its release, industry stakeholders and policy makers have started reacting to the commission's Fit for 55 Package. The set of proposals consists of twelve highly interlinked measures across emissions pricing, transport and energy.

Member states have been criticizing specific measures such as the extension of carbon pricing to heating and transport because of their social impact. Industry stakeholders have expressed reservations on the combined effect of measures imposing higher emissions reduction targets on transports. Meanwhile, NGOs have been calling for higher renewable energy targets.

In this podcast, Ermenegilda Boccabella, Adviser on Energy and Climate; Giorgio Corbetta, Senior Associate; and Tom White, Director, discuss how the commission’s proposals will impact European citizens and industry, as well as how the forthcoming negotiations will unfold.
